SUMMARY
Takes lead in establishing sourcing strategies for commodities.  Applies sourcing techniques and principles, works with engineering, manufacturing engineering and quality in supplier evaluation and selection.  Lead contract negotiations, develop contracts to manage the project to completion, evaluate supplier process and value engineer for continuous performance in price, quality, lead time and innovation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Key lead for purchasing and negotiating of selected commodities.
  • Work with key supply chain planning personnel and vendors to ensure on time delivery of assigned commodities to support production and on-time customer delivery.
  • Participate and support cross functional, continuous improvement (CI) teams and new product development (NPD) teams to ensure sourced item is implemented on time, in budget launch of new product or part changes. Direct and support purchases for the team as needed.  
  • Evaluate supplier quotes based on total cost of ownership (TCO) to determine most desirable supplier(s). Develop and present data for recommendation.  Data shall include negotiation objective, strategies, and approach to meet desired quality, financial and delivery results. 
  • Develop contract(s) reflecting all terms agreed with supplier. This includes but not limited to pricing, delivery, intellectual property, design, tool performance, warranty, payment terms (progressive, amortization, penalties), non-compete, inventory liability, assignment, quality approvals, shipping, packaging and others.  Work with legal in contract development and obtain management approval. 
  • BA degree in Business Administration. MBA or engineering background is plus.
  • Ten (10) to Twelve (12) years of experience in Planning, and Purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Four (4) years experience sourcing minimum of 2 of the following commodities: Packaging(Corrugated, Blisters), Resins, Molded Parts, Seals, Gaskets, Hardware, Capital Equipment or Purchased Finished Goods items.
  • Knowledge of purchasing best practices and hands-on knowledge of inventory control systems. ISM classes and/or certification preferred.
  • Project management and supervision experience is required. Retail manufacturing industry experience preferred.
  • Must be capable of working in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • MS Project a plus.
  • Capable of standing, bending, walking, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, and reaching on a frequent basis.
  • Capable of lifting 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Provide updates to buyer / planner teams on new product/component transitions.  Assist in new product or component releases, transition from new product to sustaining by informing team of contract terms.   Provide immediate support and address issues escalated by the buyer/planners.
  • Perform supplier performance and value engineering reviews.
  • Track and report assigned commodity worldwide industry trends. Monitor economic trends, industry changes, political changes and other factors that could have an impact on assigned commodities and recommend strategies to exploit opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Define and implement cost reduction strategies for assigned commodities in support department goal setting.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • BA degree in Business Administration. MBA or engineering background is plus.
